He then manages to take shelter, along with other survivors, on the roof of a strong building, where they endure several terrible days with little or no proper food while the floodwaters rage around them. When the storm finally subsides, Prashant sets out on a difficult and dangerous trek through a ruined landscape of mud, water and corpses to reach his own village, dreading that his family may have perished in the disaster. To his enormous relief, he finds his family alive. This survival and reunion mark the turning point at which Prashant, instead of being crushed by the horror around him, finds the strength to help others.
