  1. 1. (a) 34Shift the point right one place: 34.
  2. 2. (b) decimal pointsLine up the decimal points.
  3. 3. (c) 0.082 × 4 = 8, two places: 0.08.
  4. 4. (d) 0.034Shift point left two places: 0.034.
  5. 5. Line up the decimal points and add column by column.
  6. 6. 230 (shift the point right two places).
  7. 7. To multiply two decimals, first ignore the decimal points and multiply the numbers as whole numbers. Then count the total number of decimal places in the two factors, and place the decimal point in the answer so that it has that many decimal places. For example, to find 0.2 × 0.3, multiply 2 × 3 = 6; since each factor has one decimal place, the product has two, giving 0.06. A useful check is that multiplying two numbers each less than 1 gives an answer smaller than either, which is why 0.2 × 0.3 is much less than 0.2.
