- 1. (a) evidence and observation — Science relies on evidence and observation.

- 7. Scientific inquiry usually moves through several steps. It begins with careful observation of something in nature, which leads to a question. From this we form a hypothesis — a possible explanation that can be tested. We then design an experiment or make further observations to test it fairly, recording the results carefully. Finally we draw a conclusion about whether the evidence supports the hypothesis. For example, noticing that bread left out grows mould faster in a warm place leads to the hypothesis that warmth speeds mould growth; placing identical bread slices in warm and cool spots and comparing them tests this idea, and the results lead to a conclusion.
